A few weeks ago, we met up with some friends for dinner, to celebrate their engagement. Because it was such an important occasion, I wanted to wear something really special. I tend to buy only a few pieces and get as much wear out of them as humanly possible, but lately I’ve been feeling like my outfits have been on heavy rotation and it was time for something new.
Enter the black jumpsuit.
I saw a woman wearing one at a party over the summer and was completely captivated. Then, last month, pantsuits cropped up everywhere at the Golden Globe Awards.
You can dress them up. You can dress them down. You can wear them with scarves and jewelry in a wide range of colors. And–perhaps most important in my book–in a black jumpsuit, you can seriously get down.
Don’t get me wrong – I love dresses and skirts, but in a black jumpsuit I feel really mobile and powerful. So I set out to find one. I didn’t have much time before dinner, so I hopped over to the brick and mortar shop of Ali Golden in Temescal Alley. I try to support local makers whenever I can, and Ali’s clothes are designed and produced right here in Oakland, CA. I was incredibly lucky that they had a black jumpsuit in the store. And it fit!
Ali Golden also had some enticing bags, but I focused on the jumpsuit…
I wore my jumpsuit with black flats (I am not particularly skilled in the heels department), but apparently Ali often wears the jumpsuit with Chuck Taylors, which sounds fun.
What about you? Would you wear a black jumpsuit? If so, how would you wear it?
P.S. My jumpsuit is made of rayon, but I am more of a cotton girl (I prefer how it feels, and it’s easier to clean). Has anybody out there found a black cotton jumpsuit they love? In my dream it has a well-defined waist and capped sleeves.
P.P.S. Anybody have any luck washing rayon at home? If so what is your method? Do tell!
